9 September 2013

Hello,

So this past week was a pretty crazy week for me. We were in a trio until Wednesday, when our companions got here, on Wednesday and Thursday we worked, then on Friday we had Zone meeting, and then in the afternoon we had exchanges because the District Leader had to come over for a baptism, and then Branch Council in the evening. Saturday we had English classes, and eating appointment, and then we had to help the Hermanas with their baptism because neither one of them really knew what to do. Then on Sunday we were able to work again as normal. My companion also got lost for an hour on Saturday, he got off on the wrong stop on the bus back to Vigo (when we ended the exchanges).

Anyway, today I am pretty glad that it is p-day.

So our investigators are doing fine. Unfortunately we didn´t have a ton of lessons with them this week, however, we still have a few progressing. One of them already quit smoking, and another has drastically reduced it. Another one is struggling, but we talked about relying on the Lord, and he should be doing well here pretty soon. He should be getting baptized on the 21st of this month.

So my companion Elder Groves is from American Fork Utah, he is the oldest of 3, and actually speaks Spanish really well since he took 2.5 years of Spanish in high school. He just turned 19 on Friday.

He is going to be an awesome Elder, he is really excited about the work and he really loves it, and he doesn´t like to waste his time. He has a lot of potential to be a really great Elder and I expect him to be a great leader in the future. He isn´t scared to talk to anyone.

You are awesome, thanks for all that you do, I´m glad to be your son.

Well, that´s my time for today, things are going well,

Elder Johnson
My new companion!

  1. Hi Elder Johnson's family! I just wanted to let you know that I stumbled onto your son's mission blog a couple of weeks ago. My son is Elder Groves. As Elder Groves was in the Spain MTC I was so anxious to hear what the Madrid mission was like, and I was lucky enough to find your son's blog! As I read about his missionary service and what an amazing missionary he has been I started telling my husband how much I wished he could get Elder Johnson for a trainer! I could tell that your son has a wonderful attitude about missionary work and would be the perfect missionary to get our son started! Wow! When I got word from President Jackson who his trainer would be you can just imagine how thrilled and amazed I was! Out of 45 new missionaries I feel so grateful that my son was able to be trained by your son! We are looking forward to hearing more about their weeks ahead!

    1. Hello to you Groves family!!! How fun to see the sweet ways our lives are blessed and to hear you share that story. Thank you for that. I hope they have a wonderful time together - it sounds like they will since our son is already so impressed with yours. I can't believe how fast their time as missionaries goes. We will be welcoming our son home in 4 months as such a different and grown man, yet it seems we just sent him and I was the one googling blogs and praying so hard for his first companion. It has been wonderful. Please keep in touch and share pictures if you get any. We love pictures!!

    2. Hi to Elder Johnson's and Elder Grove's family! My son, Elder Dougher, is living in the same piso as your Elders (along with my son's companion, Elder Alhovuori). I just love this technology that we can connect to those who are connecting with our boys serving together! I have already heard great things about both of your sons!

    4. I am just starting one because of how cool your son's blog is! I don't really know what I am doing, however! Zack said again today in his email how much he loves Elder Johnson & Groves!

    5. I can help you, if you would like that. Feel free to email me and ask any questions. You can get my email off my profile page when you click "email me". If that doesn't work, I can send it to you through an IM on facebook or something. I'm glad Elder Dougher and all the other piso mates are getting along. It sure makes the mission better.

  2. That is so great to hear! I bet that is quite the feeling to watch your son grow and develop over the two years. I was amazed myself when I saw the pictures of Elder Johnson when he first went into the mtc, to his recent pictures now! He looks and sounds so great. It really has brought me comfort hearing the great attitude he has about missionary work and the good experiences he has had. I am looking forward to being able to watch the same thing happen with my son! We will be sure to share any pictures we get, which by the way, I copied and posted the picture your son took of Elder Groves onto his blog. He had wanted to send pictures of their piso, but couldn't figure out how, so he said he would try again next week. Thankfully Elder Johnson sent that picture of him, because like you we LOVE pictures! When I get more I will post them on his blog at eldergroves.blogspot.com
